TikTok Launches Standalone TikTok Shop App in Four Asian Markets

TikTok Launches Standalone TikTok Shop App in Four Asian Markets

TikTok has released a dedicated TikTok Shop app, giving users a separate place to browse and buy products. According to a report from Social Media Today, the app is available for download in select Asian markets, and social media expert Matt Navarra reported that those markets are Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines.

What the app offers

The standalone app centers on product listings and is designed to encourage shopping behavior. Some TikTok video content is still accessible, but it plays a supporting role. Users get personalized product suggestions based on their interests, along with selected livestreams and short videos meant to give context to certain listings.

TikTok describes the app as a place to “discover trending finds, exclusive deals and shopping support you can count on — all in one place.”

Following the Douyin model

The launch is the latest step in TikTok’s effort to be seen as a destination for product discovery. That approach has been central to the success of Douyin, the Chinese version of the app, which earns a significant amount of revenue from in-app sales. Citing KrAsia, the report says Douyin generated nearly $500 billion in gross merchandise volume (GMV) in 2025, with livestream commerce driving a large share of it.

TikTok has tried to reproduce that model by building shopping into the video experience elsewhere. The report says the push has had some success, though not at the same scale as in China. Marketing Maze data cited in the article puts TikTok’s global GMV at $26.2 billion in the first half of 2025.

Why a separate app?

The article suggests one reason for the gap may be that users are less keen to shop while watching videos. They often prefer to use separate apps for purchases. In the United States, for example, shoppers appear more accustomed to buying on Amazon while watching content on TikTok or YouTube. According to the report, virtually every social app has tried to combine video and shopping, but none has driven significant shopping activity.

Social Media Today speculates that a separate shopping app could fit better with these habits while keeping shoppers inside the TikTok ecosystem. It could also help tie the TikTok brand more closely to shopping, which may support the company’s broader commerce ambitions.

For now, the app is limited to the four Southeast Asian markets, and the source does not mention plans for other regions.
